Sebastian had been thinking about the possibility of a date all day, been thinking about Eden all day and the fact he had seen her on the bridge most of the day hadn’t helped it the slightest. He didn’t think she would want anything heavy in regards to a meal but he had set it up. A salad of tomatoes, green onions and cucumber, chopped very small to make something close to a salsa, that was only lightly dressed and seasoned with herbs with big crusty toasted bread. It was more of a tapas meal but they could talk and watch something if they wanted to. He glanced up as his quarters door chimed.
She took her finger off the chime and let out a breath to the count of four. "It will be fine, he already likes you. What's the worst that could happen?" Eden had opted to wear civilian clothing to this date. Her dress that brushed the top of her knees was a pale turquoise in color. She thought it might bring out her eyes, not that she wanted things to go much past conversation. Eden was really careful about who she let herself get attached too and she'd moved way beyond what she normally found acceptable without even batting an eye. That in itself was scary.
“Come in Eden.” He called softly as he put the plates down on the coffee table. He wanted things relaxed and not have pressured piled on them when it wasn’t needed. If it didn’t work out so be it but he wanted to try. “Hello.” He greeted when the door opened and revealed him in a casual button up shirt and black trousers.
"Hi," she said. "Am I early? I tend to be. I absolutely hate being late, even my crazy internal alarm clock wake me up a good ten minutes before it needs to." Eden realized he didn't need to know most of that. "I wasn't sure if I should bring something." She would have loved to pick some wildflowers for the table but that wasn't possible on a starship. "So I brought this." She handed him a small beeswax candle. "It's sort of a tradition in my family to keep a candle and light it during meals of special celebration until there's not enough wick left to light. But we don't have to light it, it's just the symbolism."
The man took the candle and smiled at her patiently and stepped back to allow her into his quarters. It was lit romantically and he had set stuff up but he wasn't opposed to changing things if needs be. "Best not to light it. We don't want a security patrol having to respond to an alarm caused by it." It was a thoughtful idea.
"Yep, true. They've already been to my quarters once. But keep it anyway." Eden looked around, it was really lovely in there. Not that it had been uncomfortable the last time she was in his quarters, except for the awkwardness between them which she hoped wouldn't appear but kind of expected it would given her track record with men. "It looks really nice."
He smiled and put it down among the food that he had organised. "Come on." He said holding out his hand to her. "I have some old films as well if you want to watch them?" Sebastian wondered softly.
"Films?" Eden eyed him curiously as she took the proffered hand without hesitation. "Alien space invaders that get shot?" She teased. Not knowing much about him they really could be anything, nothing would surprise her at this point.
He smiled and led her to the sofa sitting her down before he sat a little distance away. "Not something I claim to watch. We seem to get enough of that anyway." The man admitted and held out the Padd with the chip that contained the films on for her to look over.
"I'll be honest with you, I never watched many films growing up so I'm not really familiar with most of these. So I think you should pick something you like. And I'm sure it will be fine." It suddenly dawned on her that her head was not going to be making the decisions anymore. She felt the shift as if it were tangible.
"Okay. I am sure I can find something." The man took the device back and scrolled through his personal collection until he found one that was firstly in Federation Standard but also something that he was sure as a reader would appeal to her.
Eden slipped off her shoes and tucked her feet up on the couch next to her. She hesitated before leaning against him. It seemed like the thing to do. There was no rulebook for this kind of thing, and if there was she seriously needed to read it. Eden was clueless when it came to men.
The man was surprised as the opening credits started that the woman moved to get comfortable and leaned against him. Was he making a massive mistake here? Was she even interested or was it a feeling of she had to come here before he was her Captain? The man was worrying more than he should be but he wasn't the kind of man to abuse his position at all.
He had not relaxed, Eden could feel it. Should she not have leaned against him? It confused her, had he not kissed her on the forehead last night? She let out an inaudible sigh but decided not to move. It was nice being there, the warmth was seeping into her slowly.
"Eden, can I ask a question?" He wondered softly thinking he couldn't sit there just wondering about things. It was enough to drive even the sanest man insane.
"Of course." She pulled away from him though her long blond hair had a bit of static cling as the ends stayed behind on his shirt. Eden wondered what he might ask but remained silent, he seemed to be either deep in thought or frowning.
"What made you come here?" He wondered thoughtfully as he turned a little on the couch to look at her. He needed to know to relax, he needed to know that she was here under her own free will. He had never used his position to his advantage ever and didn't ever to attend to.
She turned her head sideways, trying to understand his sudden tenseness. "What do you mean? I thought it was because we had agreed to a date?"
"We did but I am just checking you aren't doing it out of a sense of duty." He shrugged a little, and let his gaze go down her silhouette. It was absolutely not professional of him, he knew it, but he couldn't help it.
Eden thought that was a very odd thing to ask. She supposed there were some women who would do such a thing, but she was not one of them. "No, nothing like that. I just thought . . . well I don't really know what I'm doing but you intrigue me."
"Intrigue is good enough for me I guess." He said with a small smile as he lent over and kissed her forehead. "It is a start." He added before returning his attention back to the film as if he hadn't said anything at all.
Sighing, both from the warmth that had spread through her when his lips touched her forehead and at his response to her statement she cuddled up to him again. "I like you too, I just need some time to get used to the idea."
"I won't kiss you again until you ask for one." He promised with a small smirk in her direction. Sebastian wasn't going to force her to do anything quick or at all if she didn't want to. It would go at her speed.
"You can kiss me whenever you like. To be honest I've had men attracted to me but usually when I open my mouth and start talking about Jane Austen novels or murder mysteries they run the other way. You surprise me."
"I like the classics." The man said thinking for a second to kiss her before he changed his mind. He would keep to his promise and wait for her to come to him. It would make everything so much more special that way.
"Hmm," Eden said. That wasn't so unusual, she supposed. But still, romance classics were hardly normal reading for men. She blinked a few times and tried to pay attention to the movie. She couldn't help but smile though, perhaps she finally found a man who liked her for her.
