Alexis looked at the man in front of her not sure this was the wisest idea but the man needed to go through the training for his annual certification for away team duty and Nathan suddenly felt like he didn’t feel happy without some extra tuition. It was a huge group activity as she was signing off on everyone's training for security but this was certainly different and the first time in years that they had been involved in something like this together.

“Are you sure sparing is the wisest thing?” She wondered having through the training they could have done to prepare him might have been different more holodeck then them duking it out.

Nathan smirked. “Babe,” He started breaking form and moving towards her resting his hands on her waist. “If you are worried you are going to get hurt, we don’t have to do this.” He leaned in giving her a kiss with a knowing grin.

The woman wasn’t placated in the slightest by the kiss or knowing grin. “You need to pass your certificate and you need the help.” The woman reminded quietly as she pushed him back. She knew she was going to hurt him and quite possibly take him to sickbay when she was finished.

“Yes, dear,” Nathan replied teasingly. He knew she was right, but he could practically feel her worry. He was in good shape, he was a good fighter, but he did struggle to pass his annual certification. “I still don’t get why a sensor specialist has to be proficient in hand-to-hand.” He grumbled. “Are they afraid I will go out on an away team mission and get jumped with only my hypospanner?” He assumed the position she had just finished explaining to him.

“Yes, they are,” The woman said simply with a roll of her eyes. It was an important fact that to go on an away mission you needed to be certificated and this man was going to run out at the end of the month.”You could have signed up for something else but you chose to sign up for this one.” She reminded him with a roll of her eyes.

"You know, babe." Nathan started, "You don't have to be the one to do this if you don't want too." He couldn't tell what was bothering her but knew something was. "I am sure there is a holo-program I can use. I didn't know when I asked it was going to be such an inconvenience. I'm sorry.

“It’s not an inconvenience. I’m just concerned that I will hand you your ass and you won’t like me anymore.” The woman said simply as she took her stance. She had to remind herself this man wasn’t Liam, Aranis or any of the other men she had spared with other the years. Maybe that was why she liked him so much more and he healed places in her without even trying.

"Ah," Nathan replied with a grin. "So you are just being a dumb girl." He gave her a wink. He couldn't help the love for her that was emitting from him. "When you are done being irrational I am ready for my ass-kicking, sir."

Alexis rolled her eyes. If he wanted to be a sarcastic ass she wouldn’t hold back at all. The Security Chief would show him why she was asked by Starfleet Security to do undercover missions. “Come on then Chief.” The woman stated waiting for him to make the first move.

Nathan looked at her and smirked. He was going to eat mat and he knew it. The question was, how ungracefully would he go down. Taking a step forward he swung out his arm in an attempt to grapple with her. His hand landed on her shoulder as he pulled her closer in an attempt to take control.

Alexis knew he had brute force and strength but she had a lot more grace and style on her side. The woman grinned as he pulled her close to him. “You know I love it when you take control.” The woman teased.

"You are cheating, babe," Nathan smirked as he moved to sweep her leg going in for the pin. He knew she knew she had superior skills but he had an ego on the line. He couldn't help the fact that sparing with her was exciting.

“How am I cheating?” The woman demanded as he tried to sweep her leg out from under her. She grinned and allowed him to take the leg but kept firm hold of him using his own weight to roll them onto the mat.

Nathan wasn’t surprised by her demand, but he was surprised to find his back on the mat and it a little harder to breathe than he remembered a few moments sooner. Reaching up, he couldn’t help himself and pulled her in for a kiss. It wasn’t regulation, but she had started it. “You can’t use your wiles during training.” He smiled before kissing her again and turning his prone position into a grapple.

“Okay.” The woman breathed in between kisses before she found herself rolled onto her back. Alexis looked up at him innocently as her hands were pinned above her she said nothing. Anything she could have said would have been using her wiles and she really needed to teach him.

"Thank you," he replied with a mischievous grin. He was all for her using whatever tactics she could when her life depended on it, but he was pretty certain he would never be able to flirt his way out of a fight. Giving her one more kiss he moved to stand and helped her up with him. "Take two."

The woman jumped up, normally she would have gone back to sparing but she moved around the man. “Take a stance.” She whispered and nudged his foot into a better position. It wasn’t much but it was enough to change his centre of gravity.

Nathan settled into the new position feeling ever so slightly more stable that he had been. He looked down almost as if to see what the little movement of his foot had caused. "Yes, ma'am" he gave her a smirk. "I like when you are bossy."

“I know you do.” The woman answered as she smirked back before rolling her eyes. The moment was broken and it was getting far too easy to have them with him. It would be so easy just to ask for a divorce and just move on with this man but she couldn’t, for the life of her she didn’t know why.

Nathan watched her. Being with her was easy, it always had been. He didn’t push her nor even think to push her where Liam was concerned. He wanted her to be happy no matter what that meant. “Feel free to begin when ready, sir.”

The woman moved in front of his again. “I want you to try again with this new pose. Just first movement see if it feels better.” The woman was a natural at sparing always had been and why Security and drilling cadets came so easily.

Nathan watched her for a moment. He bounced slightly getting a feel for the new form before he moved in for the grapple. It felt more stable, but odd. “Wait, let me try that again.” He stated as he released his grip on her and started again.

“Of course.” The woman smiled a little proudly as she stepped back up. He could try it as many times as he wanted in the hour that they had the holodeck.

Nathan walked through the pose adjustment in his head as he took his position. Moving quickly his hands moved in. He pulled her in close, swept her foot, and felt quite proud of himself when she was once again on her back on the mat. The difference was that this time he was more in control of his stance and not as susceptible to being out of balance as the first time. A proud smile crossed his lips as he looked down at her.

“I could still kill you in five ways with one move but you did well.” The woman teased before she poked his shoulder to get his attention. It was a comfortable weight on “You should get off me now though.” She hinted just encase anyone walked in.

Nathan smirked as he stood up. “I would hate for anyone to find you in a compromised position.” He offered his hand again. “Especially slumming with an enlisted.” He knew that he had used it against her before but the grin and wink made it clear he was only teasing.

“I prefer slumming it at the moment. And I quite like the position.” The woman accepted the hand and stood up easily. It was fun to spar though she really missed the thrill of fighting someone without holding back.

Almost as if he were the telepath Nathan issued his challenge. “I can’t help but feel like you are holding back.” He started as he took his position. “I have to admit, I am a little unimpressed.” He gave her a knowing grin. “Perhaps this is why I keep having to carry you to sickbay.” He knew he was taunting a caged lion but he couldn’t resist.

Alexis looked at the man and almost growled as she launched herself at him landing a good shot on his stomach before he was able to defend himself. Her temper just wasn’t controllable at all at the moment and poking at her probably wasn’t the wisest thing at all.

Just like the mountain cat he knew she was, Nathan wasn’t surprised by the attack. What did surprise him was the ease it was for her to get angry. He would think on this later, but at this moment he was just trying to keep the damage she would inflict to a minimum. He was out of breath when he finally got a grip on her. He had both of her wrists in one hand and an arm around her waist as he held her close to him for a moment. He said nothing.

Alexis didn’t know where the red mist came from at all but it hit and she found herself unable to stop. “Get off me… Get off me now.” Alexis yelled trying to get out the grip that she normally craved.

Nathan didn’t know where it came from, but he hesitated. There was something in her attack that was more than her showing him her true skills.

”Nathan get off me now” Alexis breathed as she bucked against his grip on her wrists. “It is over.” She said bowing her head ashamed of her reaction.

Nathan let go of her wrists but turned her so that she was facing him. He wrapped his arms around here unquestioningly. As always he made no attempt to push her or pull anything from her. He simply held her until she pushed away from him.

“No…” Alexis protested and pushed back after a moment and took a few steps back before she turned away. “You should go to sickbay for your lip.” The woman said not looking at him as she grabbed up her towel looking like she was in shock.

“My lip is fine babe,” Nathan said as he moved slowly towards her. “I am fine, Alexis.” He repeated softly in a rare use of her first name. He reached out to touch her but thought better of it. “Lex, look at me. I am fine.”

Somewhere in the recess of her mind, calling out like an old ally, was the voice of Alexis reason telling her to calm down and just think but the shock and anger made her shake her head. “This is over. You need to find someone else to help you prepare.” Alexis stumbled out uncharacteristic for her.

“Fine, done.” He said easily as he moved to pick up a towel and pressed it to his lip. There was no malice or anger in his tone. He felt none. He only felt concern and love for the Betazoid who was far more complex than she gave herself credit for. “Want some lunch? I am sure there is a replicator somewhere we can hit up.”

“I need… I need to be alone.” Alexis said and pretty much ran out of the holodeck before he could react or follow. She needed to think and talk to someone who wasn’t Nathan. What was wrong with her?

Pulling the towel away Nathan looked down at the blood appearing unphased. He watched her run away, again. This was becoming a common occurrence. The sensor specialist knew that anything worth having is worth fighting for. With a sigh of acquiescence, he pressed the towel to his lip and began the trek to sickbay. This would be a fun explanation.
