Ranav looked at the PaDD in his hand and took in a breath. He tilted his head as he stepped forward and walked into security. The Half Bolian looked around and tilted his head then said under his breath, "now to make the sale," then chuckled.
The Blue haired Security Chief looked up and smiled as she saw the Chief Medical Officer heading over to her passing the crewmen who were milling around checking out alerts. "Hello, Commander?" She greeted putting down her lunch to give him her fall attention.
"The half Bolian nodded and offered the woman a PaDD, "Commander Agrax I was hoping we could discuss security options for sickbay. I'd rather be proactive on this rather than wait until we have an emergency."
"Security options for Sickbay?" The woman wondered thinking that the standard ones should be enough but she was very amenable to listen to the man even as she saw Alexander appear in the doorway to join her for lunch. The woman rose and indicated for him to join the pair. "Apologises Commander I had lunch planned for our Chief Operations Officer here but would you like to join us in my office and we can discuss this? Alexander might have some insight into options?" Alexis offered an apologetic smile to them both one to Alexander as she had started lunch in her hunger and secondly to the Bolian not wanting him to feel put out.
“Insight into what options?” Alexander asked as he made his way from the door toward the office. He had planned to have lunch with Alexis. However, duty always seemed to find a way of calling on a Starfleet vessel.
"As hard as it might be to believe Commander, that is exactly what I am referring to. " The blue man took in a deep breath and slowly let it out again, "Medical is one of the most vulnerable locations on a ship if we are boarded, I am searching for ways to remedy that." Ranav shook his head, "Yes, I know physicians take a vow of doing no harm to their patients but not all cultures value life as the Federation does and they would love the opportunity to pick off the vulnerable so that there isn't an opportunity for the wounded to heal and possibly come back to fight them later."
“But we do have procedures?” Alexis questioned she knew them by heart. If a security alert went out teams were sent to primary areas of the ship to secure and guard, sickbay, main Bridge and Engineering being key areas.
"On Red Alerts, power is diverted from labs and non-essential systems in order to prepare for force fields to be raised in vulnerable areas, like the Warp Core and soft targets," Alex started. He indicated with his hands to say, "That on top of the security teams stationed at sensitive areas." Looking back at Ranav, he asked, "What did you have in mind, Commander?"
"Primarily a ship-wide drill," Ranav stated after listening to their comments, "Yes we have protocols but we have a refitted ship, a new crew and other than the Captain and myself there are few who have served aboard her." He drew in a deep breath and continued, "during disasters, there may need to be a sickbay overflow, a place outside the norm where injured or ill patients can be taken care of, if life support or power failures force things to be done differently we all need to know best practices and what is expected." The blue man smiled, "I have no doubt of your ability to keep us all safe, we just need to insue the plans we make actually work before we need to implement them."
"Let me see when the next one is planned." The woman mused thinking she had been onboard for the last ship-wide drill and the security teams held weekly drills in different situations. The woman brought up the next ship wide drill which was scheduled for after Shoreleave.
"The mess hall could work," Alex pointed out. "It already has a large EPS relay and a network that can support a big concentration of replicators," he stated. He briefly looked up toward the ceiling and rubbed his hand against the stubble on his face, "It would be a project to set up, but afterwards it wouldn't be too hard to convert it into an emergency medical facility in that kind of situation."
"Excellent," Ranav commented as he pondered things, "I've used the mess hall before and it works well." He chuckled, "used a lot worse too, like empty cargo bays and just lining them up in the halls." He nodded as he looked over at Alexis, "and the sooner we have these drills the better." The blue man tilted his head and looked back over at the lieutenant, "now for the morgue, sorry but when the dead start piling up they will easily fill up our existing one." He drew in a deep breath as he continued, "cargo bays work well as they can be environmentally controlled separately from the rest of the ship."
"Agreed," Alex nodded. Shifting his gaze as his next statement could play as a bit cold, he continued, "The cargo bays would offer the best way to keep any health hazards away from the rest of the crew, and as a way to preserve the bodies." If the bodies started piling up, things would be very bad aboard the ship. With a crew of a bit over a hundred, they would not be able to absorb too many losses at once.
"No," Ranav responded, "not only would moral be lowered but there would be fewer to actually perform the necessary duties." "Disease could spread rapidly if they are not kept properly." He took in a deep breath and shook his head, "the point is that we all need to be prepared and work in unison or things unravel quickly."
Alexis stayed quiet flicking through the PADD looking for the last quarterly drill and situation. "The last Drill that was held that took in all departments was two months, 2 days ago." She announced meaning that it was just before they left dry dock. "The theme had been an intruder. If you guys can think of a situation that would allow a scene to be suggested to the Executive Officer."
"Would a scenario where the ship undergoes attack be appropriate?" Ranave tilted his head and looked between the two, "It could start with the bridge, some sort of encounter, and then escalate from there."
“Makes sense,” Alex started. Giving a mischievous grin he added, “Maybe start it in Main Engineering? I can set random systems to go down to simulate sabotage from a person who doesn’t know what they’re doing.”
The blue man nodded raising his eyebrows, "that works well."
Alexis shrugged. She was willing for anything to make the Chief Medical Officer realize that her crew were more than prepared even the cadets left the ship more prepared than most cadets due to actually taking on duties that Ensign's did along with attending every drill. Alexis didn't train halfwits. "I am game for any drills."
"Then let's check with the Captain and work this out," Ranav said with a nod.
"Agreed," Alex added. He gave a look to Alexis as if to say that he knew her people would pass.
