Staying Out of It

Posted on Mon Nov 18th, 2019 @ 6:02pm by Alika Mahone & Chief Operations Kendra McIntyre & Ka'see 'Cassie' Anderson (*)

Mission: Mission 10 - Temperance
Location: Mary Rose - Grotto
Timeline: MD 03 10:00
1302 words - 2.6 OF Standard Post Measure

Cassie hadn’t been in the Grotto since the crew had hidden there in the other universe but Gregnol had asked her and a small group to see what was in there properly. People had come and gone but no one had properly looked apart from the odd things that had been found to be worth something in the three years since it was been discovered.

The small compartment was filled from floor to ceiling with all manner of things, from old school communicators all the way up to cabinets filled with piles of books and papers. Cassie leant up to a shelf filled with coloured potions and labelled powders and grabbed one down to sniff. She winced at the smell that hit her hard and made her remember when she didn't do things like that more often.

“What is half this stuff?” She laughed. Some of it she knew was her time but the other things like the large contraptions and machines she had no idea.

"Oh I dunno." Alika admitted, checking under a stack of scrolls written in an odd language she had vague recollection of. "Some of it's decades old though, I dunno how much of it is useful. Just gotta see if we're all inventoried. One of the old quartermasters had started the act, but I dunno how far he got in..."

"I have no idea," Kendra shook her head as she looked through the collection. "None of this was here before we hid in the transporter loop," she added, "What is all of this stuff?"

"What The Collector" Cassie hated her self for the pun that she was about to say. "collected." She moved to where a display cabinet has loads of trinkets in. "Johnathan actually found some of my old things in this room when he first came in here."

"That's a little... unsettling," Kendra replied, looking to her companions. She wondered if the Collector had taken anything that belonged to her, maybe he was the reason why the secret letters to her had survived for so long.

"I do not mind despite how creepy the collect seems to have been," Cassie said as she held up her hand with her engagement ring on. She was thankful to have it still along with the other items that had been collected and placed here. "It is nice to have some stuff from then." Cassie murmured as pulled out something from the cabinet.

"It's an old ship," Alika pointed out, "Would you rather your stuff have been saved on the ship or thrown out to who knows where?" She gestured to Cassie, who seemed to have her own answer. "At least here it collects nothing but dust, instead of grubby fingerprints... but if it's your's, I bet you can take whatever it is. I'll just see if the old Q-Master's list accounts for any of it and get it marked down that it's owned. It's your stuff, after all."

"Ken remember these?" Cassie held up the old communicator. It had been all new and shiny when she had first become an officer. "So much stuff here." Cassie could have spent months cataloguing these stuff without complaint.

"The new crew still looks at me like something is wrong when I point out that I used to hold my communicator," Kendra smiled as she looked at the communicators. The Chief of Communications then picked up a phaser from their day, as she rolled it in her hand she noticed a small design that had been accidentally carved into the casing due to it being dropped during a Klingon attack. "This... was mine," she recalled, "though it's not as shiny."

"Gregnol uses one of the handheld communicators," Cassie said as she grinned that they were still finding things that belonged to them. "It is nice to find things that belong to us even after all this time." Cassie carried on looking through the cabinet silently looking for things that might be interesting.

"Really?" Kendra asked. "I haven't been on any away missions with him yet, so I've never seen him off the ship," she stated as she looked over the vast collection. "I wonder what the most valuable artefact in here is," she thought aloud.

"I do not know but shall we have a look and see what we can find. Might be able to afford a dry dock if we find something priceless." Cassie said brightly sounding very much like her for a moment.

"Y'all ain't seen the horrorvids, have you?" Alika piped up from behind a large stack of old tomes and the like. "People were always spooked to come in here 'cause we all got sick off of something in here. I'm not selling a damn thing till we know it's safe."

"I heard about that. Gregnol was telling me as he wanted me to look at what was involved in what The Collector created." It was just not a priority in her list of things to do when she was using her biologist skills for other usages.

Alika narrowed her eyes at Cassie. "What is it with him and the pretty lady types..." she wondered aloud, before returning to her search. "But that's good. That means you can look at everything before anything sells. Though I still think we're gonna get in trouble for sellin' anything. You know, juju kinda trouble."

Cassie raised an eyebrow at Alika, the perfect Vulcan bored expression on her face. "Who and the pretty lady types?" She wondered no idea who she meant. Had she missed something? Gregnol wanted her to check the base of the virus to find out why it hit certain people and not others.

"Look in a mirror, chickie-poo." Alika replied with a small snort. She made an excited noise, diving into a pile of knickknacks and pulling out a small device, one that fit in the palm of her hand. "I knew that conniving jerk wouldn't find it here. He was looking too hard for it."

Cassie frowned still not understanding what she was getting at but it did not matter. It was the story of her life when it came to Human apart from her mother, she had no idea. "What is it?" She wondered glancing back at Kendra wondering if she had a clue.

"Gregnol hasn't really shown me any favors, so what are you trying to say?" Kendra stated with a straight face. Turning her attention to Cassie, she shrugged. "No idea."

Cassie was confused and had no idea what the woman meant or what she had found. Maybe it was her but it could be Alika being her usual quirky self.

Alika avoided the question, tucking the object in her jacket pocket as she quirked a brow. "I didn't say nuthin' about favors. I just said he liked listening to the pretty girl types above the ... how many guys we got on ship now? Not that many. Not sayin' it's bad either. Just sayin' he is."

"Got lots I would say but cannot say I have noticed that," Cassie commented on watching Alika tuck what she had found in her pocket. "But let's just get on with cataloging and trying to get through some of this." They had promised Gregnol they would at the very least try and shift some of it around to make it easily movable is they went that route.

Stacking a few of the smaller objects together, Kendra added, "I don't know. I haven't been awake and part of the crew as long as the rest of you." She preferred to stay out of conflict.
