"Well they were fun," Alika watched as the second group made their way down to another area of the ship. Science? Yeah, science. She shrugged, looking toward the trio who decided to stick with her in the Operations wing. "I don't think I've been in a ship this updated since... well, it's been a bit. Unless you count that shuttle I uh-..." She trailed off, then shrugged and grinned, whirling about. "Doesn't matter. I'm gonna go see if I can get this booted up!"

"Slowly!" Jake called after her. It felt like he was babysitting children sometimes. "We still don't know what we might come across here. Just be careful."

Jasper smiled and shook his head as he inspected a pannel and rerouted broken conduits, "at least I can figure out what's going on here, though not exactly sure why there are so many broken connections."

Alika simply shrugged. "It's probably just a stray rat or two that got hungry. Ship's old enough, right? If something sits long enough, a whole number of things'll happen." She looked to Jake for a short moment, as if assessing him and his reaction time. He looked like he could have been a pure stick in the mud, or he could have looked like he was just doing his job and was secretly loads of fun. She could never tell with guys like that.

"If you start there, cutie," she started, prodding Jasper in the shoulder, "I'll dive a little further in and see if I can jumpstart one of the main consoles. We can see where the major source of all the disrepair is and help Engineering out while they try to boot 'er up."

"like rodents dying out on their own," Jasper tried to remind with a laugh, "even they have to eat." He shook his head, that is unless someone is onboard feeding them." He fiddle around some more and the panel lit up probably for a moment and he shrugged, "got this one up, hope it stays that way."

"Hope so." By this point, Alika had her hands deep in the guts of a console that was attached to a wall. "What's it say? Anything important? Do we have a legion of spiders on our mitts?" Her eyes flickered to the security guy between them, "Or maybe something worse? Space wolves? I read a comic on them. They're pretty nasty."

"lots of short circuits fairly close to each other," he chuckled as he read the text scrolly by, "could be the work of spiders." He stopped the scrolling and then looked around, "there's a note here, says that the system was shut down automatically due to system overloads. Sounds like short-circuiting, like a circuit breaker popping off due to an overload."

"I like spiders." Alika stated plainly, stepping back as her console sprung to life. "System overloads? I wonder how long ago it was, whether it's been running up till recently or not. If it has, that core's probably gonna need a juice up." She took a look at the garbled messages on screen. "Doesn't look like they managed to clear out a lot of that war gunk either. Might not have been all that long ago."

"Well you're welcome to them," Jasper said with a chuckle as he moved to the next console and powered it up, "it does seem like they left in a hurry, not sure exactly why yet though."

"How long's this ship been out here?" Jake wondered aloud. "If the damage is fairly recent, maybe a few systems were still running in standby when they abandoned her, and they've only just given out."

Alika turned from her careful reading of the garbled text on the screen. "Looks like it was abandoned a little under a decade ago, but that's weird, because if it was, that would be just after the War, right?"

Jasper chuckled as he studied the new data scrolling through his tricorder and the COM connection, "from my limited knowledge of that history I would say it sounds right."

The man drew in a deep breath and tilted his head, "look here, something was just recorded as being on deck eight, I mean just yesterday."

"Hm?" Alika leaned over, leaning in to Jasper to get a look at the reading he was looking at. "Was it one of our groups? It's too big to be another small critter - oo, maybe it's a zombie."

"Sure," Jasper said furrowing his brow, "and Doctor Frankenstein is the chief science officer."

Alika looked over at Jasper with a perplexed expression. "Really? I thought our science chief was named Jinx. Or are you talking this ship?" She gave the files a curious look, before her lips pressed together in realization. "... Doctor Frankenstein doesn't exist, huh?"

"Thankfully, no," Jake confirmed, recalling the horror movies Eden had convinced him they needed to watch together. "We don't have teams in that area of the ship. I wonder what's down there?"

"We can try to run a scan," Jasper suggested as he looked at Jake, He furrowed his brow as he continued, "well we can after I get it working."

"That's what you folks are here for," Jake nodded. "We get this section up and running it should help us monitor the rest of the ship."

With a small shrug, Alika turned to visually assess the operations center, hand on her hips as she tapped her foot. "You know, we'd need more power for a shipwide scan. We might be dead in the water until we can get engineering to give us more power. Or we could hook up a battery... anything else randomly running in the background we can re-route?"

"Two holodecks are still running and the food replicators on level 18 are still running," Jasper replied as he stared at the COM in front of him, "and they've been used? How?"

"Miracle of power flow?" Alika suggested with a shrug. "Wanna go check it out?"
