Quin took the dermal regenerator out of its container, as he sat in a nearby chair. He sighed, as he ran a finger over the item. It was just a regenerator right, a piece of equipment. It was something he stole from god knows where. It was a simple piece of equipment and one used by the Doctor many times over. Yet, somehow this piece made him think. He coughed as he tried to hold in the emotion, he didn't need someone to walk in and see this; especially the Romulan. He sighed, as her face filled his mind. God did he miss her...

Some Time Back

"Daddy," the small voice giggled, "higher.. up there.." a tiny finger pointed to the sky as she closed her eyes. "Clouds.. touch.." the child giggled again.

Quin laughed, "you wanna touch the clouds," he pushed the swing a little higher, holding onto his daughter tight. "Here we go...". The girl squealed with delight as she screamed kicking her feet. "Did you touch them yet, Sammie," Quin asked?

Sammie reached her tiny arm out as far as she could, "yes, Daddy.." she kicked her feet this time losing her balance as she slipped out of the swing. Her Daddy had managed to catch her, for the most part, but she had caught her arm on the swing and she now had a cut on her left arm. The girl looked at the trickle of blood and let out a scream, followed by tears.

Quin scooped up his daughter, "oh, it's just a small cut," he kissed her arm, "we'll get you all better," he smiled as he wiped a tear from her cheek. Carrying a screaming toddler who was certainly dying from a life-threatening wound as rather difficult. Sammie flooded him with several questions. Was it bad? Do I needs surgery? Will you have to removes it? Quin couldn't help but smile at his daughter's dramatic side. She certainly got that from her mother.

Sammie looked at her father, "it's not funny, I beeding," she pointed to her arm in a very serious manner.

Quin sat the child down on a nearby sofa as he gathered a few supplies he kept around the house. Since his retirement and moving to Risa he always managed to pick up the occasional client, supplies were always needed and at various times throughout the day. He cleaned the wound and gave a few kisses along the way.

Sammie looked at her arm as she sniffed, whipping her nose with her other sleeve. "You made the bloods stop," she inspected her arm, "good job Daddy," she forced a smile through tear-stained eyes.

Quin picked up the old dermal regenerator, it was probably an antique, but it got the job done. "And this will make it all better," he smiled as he clicked the device on and made several passes over the young child's arm. As Quin continued to work on the arm, he failed to notice that Sammie was no longer looking at him. Her attention had been drawn to a gentleman that had entered through the still-open door.

The Cardassian waved at the small child, but something wasn’t right, and Sammie didn’t wave back. She tapped her Daddy’s shoulder, “Daddy, look,” she pointed.

“Good afternoon Sweetheart,” the Cardassian smiled.

Quin’s blood suddenly ran cold, he knew that voice. The tension increased in the room as Quin’s only desire now was to keep his child safe. He tried to reach under the sofa, but the Cardassian gripped his shoulder, hard.

“Now, now Doctor Sarratt,” the man questioned, “is it Sarratt…" he laughed, "I can’t keep track of all those names you've used.” He reached down taking the phaser from the sofa and handed it to a Cardassian behind him. “Why don’t you excuse the child, we have a few things we need to talk about.”

Quin sat Sammie on the ground and this time his voice wasn’t sweet, nor was it comforting, “Sammie, go find your mother, now.”

“But Daddy,” she started to cry…

“Just go, now,” he shouted.

Sammie ran off as the Cardassian released the grip on his shoulder, “there that wasn’t so hard,” the man smiled as he looked down at Quin. “You and I have some unfinished business.”

Quin pleaded, “let them leave, they are not a part….” He felt a hard smack to the side of the head as everything went black.

…..

Quin darted up out of his chair, he was still holding the regenerator in his hand. He took a deep breath as he tucked the item back into his storage container, “I’m so sorry, Sammie...”
