Ledeya was just about to finally crawling into bed after the chaos of the last few days between getting locked in the isolation chamber and then being the bases Chief Medical officer for days it was nice to be in her own bed. She paused in the doorway to the bedroom and pulled on a robe over her PJ shorts and vest top. "Enter." She called.
In stepped the stern-faced Executive Officer, clad in his Command undershirt and a somewhat matching pair of Starfleet-issue pajama pants. Gavin had spent the better part of the day on the station, coordinating efforts and helping the security team check and double check every little detail that could have been glossed over or passed as innocent, before triple and quadruple checking again. Even he had to admit that their efforts, while valued, were exhausting.
"Ma'am." Even his usual straight-laced tone sounded as tired as he felt. "... You wanted to speak with me?"
“Gavin?” Ledeya questioned before indicating for him to come in better. “I did not expect you until morning.” She admitted moving to the couch sitting down.
He gave a small nod, before padding into the room. "For this matter, I thought time was of the essence," he stated, though he had come empty-handed. He had left the materials in a room on the starbase that only select security personnel could access. It seemed the best option for the moment. "Especially if it is to keep you appraised of the Heimdall's current situation."
Ledeya smiled a little. The man was so much more about business than her. "Yes, I did get myself into a bit of situation getting locked into the containment chamber." The woman admitted offering the opposite side of the sofa as she sat down herself.
"Something we can likely avoid in later instances," Gavin stated, rather seriously at that, as he sat in the offered seat. Gavin only waited a small moment. "Fortunately, we've not been in the same luck on our end. The investigation has proved... interesting, but I feel like they're in the right place to tie up the loose ends. Starbases... I never understood people who volunteered for those assignments."
"At least I was locked away unhurt compared to the medical crew I was working with." She had gotten back to action pretty quick compared to the Officers who had been affected by the gas that had been left outside. "Oh, why is that Gavin?" Ledeya was interested in why he did not want a posting that most officers would kill for if they could get it.
Gavin looked out the viewport with a frown. "It's a station. Predictably, it doesn't go far. I have more enjoyment out of the travel of a starship. This sort of life... it isn't for me. Diplomacy on Starfleet's part should be proactive... and a starship embodies that message more."
Ledeya rose an eyebrow. She had never heard the man speak with so much passion before, it was almost nice to know that underneath it all he might be alive after all. "I am starting to see a simple life does not suit you."
"I don't think the work on a station is anywhere near simple. It is simply... stationary. There is more work to be done beyond one station. That sort of position is for another sort of person." He gave a shrug of his shoulders, before passing the PaDD over to Ledeya. "That should be the most comprehensive review of the damages the Starbase has taken, and the resources they've utilized and still need to be fully operational."
"There are a lot less red locations than 48 hours ago." That seemed to be massive progress in her books. Starbase 621 seemed to be operating with support to speedily turn red into yellow which pleased the woman massively.
Gavin nodded. "I have to say, our teams have worked quicker than everyone predicted. And while I have quite a bit of pride for that, we do have to think of our own resources. I'm sure the crew's health has been on your mind, but we may have to remain at the Starbase for just a little longer, to restore what energy reserves we need to carry on our own duties."
"I imagine we will be here another week or so from looking at our own duty requirements. We have been depleted and we also require repair to our communication repair after a power surge. " Ledeya assured having worked through the numbers before she had decided to go to bed.
"One week, three days, and four hours if we go at our current efficiency." And Robo-Gavin returned with a nod. "But I didn't suspect the timetable would be so much an issue. I've not heard any complaints from the crew, none that are more than the typical, so I do not suspect anyone is going to object to a longer stay if necessary."
Ledeya raised an eyebrow as Robo-Gavin reappeared as if he had always been there. Truly made her wonder what Starfleet was thinking of giving her an Executive Officer so staunch in his approach. "Well we were meant to be have been here anyway for the conference but the Olympics and Sahara are going to continue border patrols for however long that we are here." It had been something she had already spoken to headquarters about. "We are back here in a month for the Tech conference. Do you think it will go ahead?" Ledeya was asking as a person not as someone with numbers and efficiency going around in his head.
Gavin only knew how to answer a question like that in his typical efficient fashion. "For the sake of diplomacy and the like? Most probably. I expect no one is going to want that cancelled for a number of reasons. Logistics of cancelling are a mess, and it's a month out. That's long enough for the Starbase to have sorted out any security issues and engineering mishaps."
"Are you looking forward to the downtime it will offer you?" Ledeya wondered looking through a PaDD and the information about the security and engineering issues it was offered. It would be interesting to see what Alexis and Ryon came back with.
"I'll likely utilize it in a manner best suited to the ship's adventageousness, so I suppose the answer to that would be yes." Gavin's brow furrowed. "Though, I should find a way to up the security measures for such an event, at least on the Cosmos. There's a good chance with so many Commanding Officers - One of which being Admiral Harrington - that we should be ready for any eventuality. I've heard through a few channels that people end up snatched up at events such as this. I would not like this to occur to you, or anyone else for that matter. But my primary priority is to make sure Security measures are as tight as they should be."
"Admiral Harrington does seem to have a habit of getting himself into trouble," Ledeya answered absently as she smiled at the fact he did not want her in trouble. That had to be one of the nicest things he had said to her. "I would hate to be snatched away. I am sure Agrax will only love to get back to basics and do Security Chief things again."
Gavin shook his head. "You will not be taken by anyone under her watch. Under assessments, she is showing admirable promise. It simply means any checks I will make will likely be short and to the point. But made, simply out of precaution."
"Well, she was Executive Officer before she stepped down about the shadow bubble incident." Alexis was smart and brave and really had been a commendable Executive officer but Ledeya was selfishly happy that the woman was on her ship. "Ever the sceptic Gavin." Ledeya smiled sweetly at the man. "Thank you for holding the fort last few days."
"It's standard security procedure. Even if we had a team of the finest in Security, there are still unknowns in the universe. We cannot have a potential technological advancement slip us by. I check her team, they make sure my information is up to date. It is a system that checks us both." He paused, as if caught by surprise by a simple thank you. He was. "It was nothing, Ma'am. Simply my job, but... I do appreciate your acknowledgement."
"Anytime. But I believe from the state of our clothing it is bedtime for us both." Ledeya admitted with a small nod indicating his clothing before glancing down at her robe. They both needed some sleep, him more than her she suspected. "Please have a lie-in, in the morning. You've been running things for the last few days whilst I was locked in the broken confinement. We have numerous officers who can cover the bridge."
It only gave a momentary pause and a thought before Gavin slowly nodded. "Of course, I suppose a day of rest couldn't hurt. I have matters to attend with Starfleet Security. Someone has asked for me to write on the finer topics of detecting outdated explosive technology, a topic in which I apparently excel in."
Ledeya raised an eyebrow but spoke no more on pushing him. If he found that enjoyable so be it, she was not going to push the subject or try and force him to do something more relaxing. "Apparently but either way rest and enjoy the free time Gavin. I will see you at some point tomorrow for another round of this. I will be heading to the base as soon as I wake they still require a chief Medical Officer." She explained as they walked towards the door.
