Eden was awake really early the next morning. She let Jake sleep until about 0600 and then flopped down on the bed next to him, fully dressed. "I wish we were close to a planet so we could see the sun rise. Wouldn't that be lovely? A cup of coffee in hand, a blanket, snuggles as it rose above the horizon."
"Mmgdyah..." Jake mumbled nonsensically, still mostly asleep.
She giggled. "Aww, come on. It's a beautiful day, the birds are chirping, extra large coffee brewing, kisses." Eden said as she planted one on the end of his nose. "I wonder if I can train Stan to chirp. Can spiders make noises? I'm not sure they have vocal cords."
"If they do I hope they're quiet," Jake grumbled into his pillow. "It's the middle of the night. Why are you still talking?"
"It's not the middle of the night it's 0600. Time to be bright eyed and bushy tailed." She ran her hands into his hair. It would probably make him fall back to sleep. If it did she'd make a tisking noise and let him sleep.
He rolled onto his back, squinting up at her with a grumpy look. He liked the way she was playing with his hair, but aside from that he was still being woken up. "0600 is the middle of the night," he groaned.
"It's not the middle of the night," Eden laughed again. He did look tired though. "Alright, go back to sleep." She said playfully hit him with a pillow on the legs. "I'm getting up though. I like to have some time to ease into my day."
Jake lay with his eyes closed, sighed, and finally opened them, squinting at her. "It's a good job you're pretty," he said mockingly, snatching the pillow and tickling her just under the ribs. "Otherwise it would be far too easy to get mad at you."
"You think I would have let you into my life if I hadn't realized really early you were a big softie? I don't like men who get mad." She said simply, leaving it at that. Maybe she would tell him someday, but she didn't want to ruin the morning.
He snorted a little. "Papa Bear," he said, resting his head against his arm. Seeing her confused expression, he continued. "It used to be a nickname folks gave me. Like a big old bear, soft and fuzzy - until you mess with one of my pups."
"So I'm a pup?" Eden was grinning now, she had snaked her way back onto the bed closer to him. "I thought you wanted to go back to sleep?"
"That depends on whether someone tries to mess with you, doesn't it?" he said, his own grin forming. "And I'm awake now. No point in trying when you're stomping around talking about chirping spiders."
"I'm not stomping around," Eden said indignantly. "And I only mentioned chirping spiders once. Just admit it, you like me too much to go back to sleep."
"Never!" Jake teased with a deep laugh. "You'll have to torture that confession out of me."
"Nah, too much work. But I know the truth." Eden snuggled into him. "So now that you're awake what are you going to do with your early morning?"
"Hmm." He thought for a moment. "Since you woke me up, I guess you should also make me some breakfast, right?" he winked.
Eden made a huffing noise. "Early bird gets the worm huh? Fine, what do you want?" She tilted her head up so she could see his eyes.
"Bacon?" he asked hopefully.
"And eggs and toast?" She asked. "I might be able to pull that off." She pulled away from him. "I wonder if spiders like bacon?" Eden said as she exited the bedroom in search of food.
