Rueben stood tall looking confused as he stared at a blank wall surrounded by the senior officers and a few engineers. He paced back and forth as he listened to them. He wore his customary black shirt, boots, trousers and his leather jacket.
“So you are telling me all the power issues with the lights going off and losing powers is because there is a faulty power conduct behind here?” Rueben asked looking at the group of Engineers unsure. He couldn’t understand how it was possible when he couldn’t see an entrance anywhere. It just looked like any other wall. “There is nothing here… It is just a wall.”
Tabitha looked at the "Boss" like he was an Idiot.. "Did you even crack open a book on BASIC Starfleet construction practices for the last century?" She went to the nearest console and began searching.
"Whatever's on the other side of the wall's not just wiring and pipes," piped up Alika from the other side of Rueben, in a manner she thought was gratingly pleasant and polite. So much so her brother would have been proud, "soooooo it's not exactly something a Starfleet instruction manual's gunna tell us."
Jeassaho glared at the other former Starfleet Engineer and rolled her eyes. "And it won't be in the archives if anything on this ship is to go by so far." She commented on starting to wonder how the other Betazoid had survived in Starfleet with the attitude.
"Don't give me attitude today Tiffin." Rueben said lightly pulling the tricorder to him to look over properly. Gordon arrived in time to hear the conversation between Rueben and Tabitha. Dressed in his standard gray overalls, there seemed to be a pocket for just about anything. "Excuse me," he said to the group surrounding Tiffin and Jeassaho as they examined the wall, then pushed his way through them to stand beside them.
"That's a doozy." Alika craned her neck to get a better view from behind Rueben. She would have much rather spent the time piloting the giant vessel, but the 'faulty power conduct' turned her navigation systems to gobbledegook. "... Think it'll take long to fix?"
"Have to break.. i mean we have to get in to the hold first." Jeassaho murmured pushing up her welding mask showing off her grin. It was one of the first grins that the Betazoid had shown off in front of the group.
It didn't make any sense to Joss. The were no Jeffries tubes around. Usually, if there was power anywhere, there had to be something to conduct it. "Have you seen the floor plans? Do we know for certain there is something back there and this isn't just some anomaly?"
"There is power being here from the plans but from the charts i have found stuff in the former Chief Engineers desk this should be a hold." Jeassaho said looking back and forth down the corridor to see if there was anything that would hint as a hidden entrance. "It is properly sealed."
"Have you tried a magnetic decoupler to break the resonance in the wall? Some of the ships put out in the last fifty years have used that technique to seal panels where access was not needed often. Here, give this a try." He reached into one of the many pockets and removed a slender tube-like device, no bigger than a finger. "Your tricorder should be able to locate the points used to weld the plates together. Once you find them, run this across those locations."
He then turned to look at Jeassaho. "I was wondering why my desk was so empty. If you would, please return those to me. And anything else you may have found in my predecessor's desk."
Jeassaho just smiled wildly at the older man. "I was only helping in the cleaning effort of our office." She said lightly before taking in what he had said. She would have tried that if the ship hadn't been so old.
"Rosie is 150 years old." The Captain spoke up, his voice calm despite his worry over what they would find behind the plating.
Alika edged closer, squinting from over the Captain's shoulder to over that of Brandon's. "Maybe it'll still work, Cap. Some of the newer ships have their schematics based off of the older ones... right?"
Rueben sighed a little, he really just wanted to get inside the space to fix the issue so they could stop blacking out the ship. He finally came to the decision. "Jea... just bust in please." Rueben said moving a little so the small pilot would be able to see better. He gave her a smile before he looked away as a burst of light lit up the dull corridor. Jeassaho had started welding through the wall plating a mask covering her face.
Tabitha kept her engineering tricorder focused on the area being cut,, Nothing said goodbye quite like a gas burst... "I think you'll be fine but don't rush it..."
Jeassaho rolled her eyes at the woman's warning but didn't say anything or even let her thoughts stray how she felt about the words. They meant nothing to her when the other Betazoid spoke to people the way she did. With one final flourish the plating fell forward.
Bradon nodded to himself. He had liked the professional way that Jeassaho had handled herself with that cut. Using a welder in this way was difficult, and she had done an excellent job with it. That rose her up another notch in his mind. Tabitha also seemed to know what she was doing. Her advice to Jeassaho had been sound.
The engineers did their part, and Alika flopped back, leaning on bulkhead behind her. "I bet it was Mildred Mango in the kitchen, with the dilithium spanner."
Tabitha ignored Jess's self protective attitude and focused on the job. She looked in as the wall cooled but it was to dark. What she felt was a strange Lingering, and something lurking. Death Echo crossed her mind. She shuddered... Not Good.
