It had been an eventful morning for Cassie when she had been dragged out of bed as the only scientist with experience in the weird to go down to the planet as some type of energy had been observed. With communications not possible and the crew that had gone to investigate the colonist disappearance not having returned it was logical but did she really have to lead a whole security team? It was just becoming dawn when they found the team unconscious on the floor before a large bit.

“Over here!” One of the crewmen shouted spotting first the communication beacon and then the form of Eden Bowers on the floor. With Eden being taken care of Cassie knelt down by David scanning him with her tricorder.

Eden came awake rather rapidly when someone touched her. "Oww," she said as her head was pounding, likely from the position she had fallen. She jerked upright though, looking around for Sebastian. "Is he okay?"

Rolling over with a groan, David pushed up on an elbow and wiped a hand over his face. "Ugh, what happened?" he asked, disoriented. He'd had the strangest dream...

"Stay still Lieutenant," Cassie commented pushing him David back onto the dirt running the tricorder over him still as the Security Crewman did the same to the Captain.

"He is alive Ensign. The same reading is on all of them, the strange energy the ship was registering." A science glad crewman murmured as he stared over the edge at the hole that was being seen for the first time in the light.

That calmed Eden, to know that he was at least still breathing though he appeared to be unconscious still. She sat there, letting people look at her but kept her eyes on her boyfriend, not caring what anyone else thought.

"Get that thing away from me!" Carter scowled, almost manhandling a security officer that was scanning him as he lay on the ground. "What the blazes are you doing? Why are we on the floor?" He looked around, eyes settling on an approaching figure.

"You failed to report in on time, so we decided to send in a search party," Commander Sura Locke, the Ishimura's XO, gave him an amused shake of the head. "Honestly, Carter, you're like a bad luck charm for the Captain. What is this, the third away mission you've needed a security team to rescue you both from?"

"Keeps things interesting..." Carter grumbled. "Someone pass me my medkit. You cretins don't have a clue what you're looking for," he declared, giving the young security officer a meaningful look. He eased himself upright, dusting off his uniform. "So, ah, what actually happened?"

Cassie looked at Carter and took the tricorder from the security officer who was about to hand it over. "Deal with the more compliant one Ensign." She commented in a no-nonsense done as she scanned Carter herself. "We were actually hoping you could tell us that." She added as Sebastian stirred with a moan as his hand instantly when to his head.

David sat up in a crunch, head resting a moment on his knees as he tried to sort out confusing fuzzy remnants of dream from memory of what had happened. "There was light ...a bright column of light ...coming from down there. And then it just ...shattered."

Sebastian slowly sat up despite the security officer telling him to not to. "That is right." Sebastian could only recall it like a dream himself but he was sure it happened. "Does not feel real though. It feels like it happened to someone else and I am watching it through their eyes."

"Some form of radiation? Power surging through us. I remember the light but it still feels very real to me. Was I not as affected as the others?" Eden frowned. She really felt okay despite having lost consciousness.

"Like a bad dream," Carter agreed. "Although not much of a hangover." He ran the tricorder over himself. "Not seeing anything particularly unusual. Nothing a glass of Aldebaran Whisky wouldn't fix, at least."

"Either way I think it might be best to get you back to the ship," Sura noted. "I'm sorry, Captain, but I'm sure you'd do the same thing for the rest of us."

"Wait, we should investigate," David objected, looking at the deep hole the light had come from. "At least send down a probe to take readings."

"We are not going anywhere but we need to get you back to the ship Sir." Cassie pointed out before anyone else could and stood up offering her hand to pull the man to his feet. She would personally sort out a Science investigation but the priority was getting them back to ship and checked over better than what a tricorder could offer.

"A probe sounds like a very good idea," Agreed Eden. "That way no one gets got by . . . whatever that was, again. And we can go home. I've had enough of this eerie place to last a lifetime."

"Do it," Sebastian said slowly got to his feet shakily feeling like he had been running all night. "You say that Ensign but you keep wandering off." The man commented on blinking in the light that was properly rising across the horizon now.

"Aye, one of these days you might actually get us into trouble!" Carter chuckled, giving Eden a nudge.

"I didn't mean to," Eden said more softly as she felt guilty again.

"I think that light would have drawn us here anyway," David offered kindly. Wandering off had been careless, but whatever had happened here really wasn't her fault.

"We could not have ignored it." The Captain assured quickly. What had happened with the light was not her fault at all. It would have happened with all the scientist around. "How far are your shuttles??" Sebastian wondered thinking it was going to be a long walk back to where they had left their one. It was the other side of the colony and then some.

"Just outside the colony limits," Sura responded. "Figured we didn't want to be trekking too far if you were in need of some help. Are you all ready to return to the ship now?"

"I suppose we have to," David sighed. The A&A officer looked around wistfully. He'd never even gotten to examine the dig site but sensed that objecting wasn't going to get him anywhere.

"We can come back once we know we are okay." The Captain said seeing the wistful looking on David' s face. He knew that look all too well. Sebastian nodded, he was more than happy to get back to the ship even if it was just for medical tests, rests and eventually writing reports. It all made him wonder if at his age he really was just getting too old to go running around archaeological sites playing the fool.

Eden was done with this place and she thought they all should be but she knew when there was a mystery to be solved Sebastian would not let it go. That was their first connection, a shared love of mysteries. "Just be careful, if you do come back."

"It will not be for a few days, Ensign," Sebastian assured quietly. He ached too much to do anything other than paperwork and coffee for as many days as he could before he came back to investigate the whole. "Lead the way Commander." He ordered with a sweep of his hands and a yawn.

"Aye Captain." Sura smiled, then motioned to the rest of the away team with a wave of her arm, directing them back towards the landing shuttles.

With a last longing look at dig site, David headed in toward the shuttles.
