Timeline: MD -28 22:00
1721 words - 3.4 OF Standard Post Measure

Braden worked his way to a corner across from the entry and took a booth there. He watched the crew mingle and sipped at his soda. He was pleased the party was looking to be a success. He noted Cowboy had left his guns at home for a change. Not even a leg holster by the way he walked. Braden smiled knowing the guy probably felt naked without his arsenal. Draia and Paul had drifted together as could be expected. He saw Dixoho and The young Engineer enter, they made a nice couple. He wanted to meet Mahone the new ship XO as he had not met her as yet, one of the reasons for being here. In the back of his mind he was also curious to see Reessem, she had seemed lonely whenever he spoke to her and thought of her as a friend.

Markus squeezed Dixoho's arm in his "Think we have room to dance? I ain't good but I move a lot!" He laughed it was nice to feel as if he was on a real date with Dixoho. He was still a bit worried he was going to end up being seen as a just a friend. Then again if she kept kissing him as she was he figured it was a safe bet she didn't kiss a mere friend like that!

Dixoho smiled at Markus and squeezed back. "Maybe once the booze kicks in." She grinned at him as she waved to someone she knew across the bar. "It looks really good doesn't it? Lots of hard work been put in by Engineering."

"True but it was an obvious benefit." Markus squeezed her hand "so what are you drinking I can go get us drinks while you look around. I seen this as I was working on it."

"Whatever they have," Dixie assured softly letting go of Markus' hand to let him go to the bar. It was a nice feeling to know that she had someone who wanted her as much as she wanted him.

"Dixoho I can not bring you the bar. I am sure you like somethings more then others?" Markus sighed "I need more information Missy unless you plan on just dropping our acquaintance, I.. I don't know what you like yet, this is our first sort of public date?"

Dixoho sighed softly. She really wasn't bothered and she suspected that the bar didn't exactly have much but she took the hint that he was trying to discover what she liked. "I can see a bottle of Draylaxian whiskey." She said softly.

Markus much relieved smiled "I shall bring you the bottle. I will be right back." He walked over to the bar and got the bar tender's attention "I want the bottle there of Draylaxian whiskey and a pitcher of beer, whatever is on tap is fine. I need two shot glasses and two beer mugs as well. I am guessing this can go on my ship account?"

The man looked at him and nodded. He already knew all the crew by sight so it was easy to charge to accounts. He got the bottle and the pitcher of beer for the man easily. It wasn't like there was ever going to be a rush for his time.

"You didn't need to get the bottle." Dixoho laughed as Markus returned with a shake of her head. "It is highly underrated this whiskey." Unlike a lot of the crew, Saa knew a lot about the majority of the major movers and shakers of the Federation from her travels.

Markus shrugged "whatever you do not drink we can take home. I am sure there are evenings you would not mind a drink or two to relax." He looked around "anyone you want to socialize with?"

There were many evenings but most of them were spent in the Ward Room. It would be nice to have the crew bar for an option now. "Not overly. No idea who some of the people are and I haven't seen Reessem. Anyone, you want to?" She wondered pouring a healthy measure into her class before savouring the taste.

Off to one side corner sat Valiyi Uhin, a small mug in her hands as she observed the crew bustling about the cargo bay. It was an odd location to host the soiree, but then again, that was not a call for her to make. She preferred to keep to the sidelines, as she kept to watching those around her.

Braden saw the passenger lady sitting in an out of the way location and walked over. "Excuse me, would you like some company? I have seen you around but we have never so much as talked to each other. I am Braden MacCloud the chief Science guy here. If you do not wish company feel free to say so and I will not bother you. Everyone is entitled to their solitude after all."

"Chief Science Guy? What a title." Valiyi held up her mug for a moment, as if to offer cheers and greetings. "While I've found that observing the crew from afar has been rather enjoyable, pleasant conversation never hurts. Valiyi Uhin, passenger, and civilian diplomat to the Corps. Mostly, in any case."

Braden sat down with a curious expression. "A Diplomat, now I would have never guessed I would find Diplomat on this ship." He watched her eyes a moment then looked out over the gathering. "Is that what you are doing? Observing people for some background information? I could see how that could be useful. Myself I have not seen much peace in the Galaxy and I for one would like to see folks like you settle differences rather then people with guns. Have you formed any professional opinions on anyone yet?"

"A diplomat between one job and the next," Valiyi explained. "The Captain has so graciously offered to give me a ride. But yes, observing the crew has been most helpful, on the off chance my services are needed before I reach my destination." She gave those gathered in the room a curious look. "From what I've observed so far, there seems to be a lack of cohesion between members of the crew. A party such as this could aid in that matter, but those out there come from all walks of life, so I cannot imagine this will alleviate all the issues."

"The crew is mostly made up of people who could not follow the rules inside Starfleet? If lack of cohesion means the same as anti-social then I totally agree with you." Braden smiled "I myself am not very social." He smiled at her "My opinion is people, all people follow rules for a few reasons. Most I think follow the rules to be acceptable inside society. they need other people. Another group fears being caught breaking the rules. They fear punishment plus many fear being left out of normal society. However if you do not wish to belong and think you are clever enough to break the rules and get away with it there is not much to stop you from trying. Those are typical people not evil or good just folks." Braden leaned forward with his elbows on the table "then there are what I consider the evil types. Those who prey on others and use the rules to their advantage. They end up in places like this as well. Everyone here has their reason for not working within the rules. Once you break with basic rules there is not much reason to cooperate." Braden continues smiling "can I get you a drink?" He laughed "if you are going to try and build cohesion here you will need some fortification."

Valiyi shook her head, lifting her mug of hot chocolate to signify that she was already 'fortified.' "One does not need Starfleet to continue to have cohesion within a group. Nor does a group need a set of rules to do so. Rules are necessary if one continues to operate the group as a community, or within a society, but they are not necessary for those who simply wish to coexist together within a certain area. What a group needs is the ability to communicate effectively and be able to work together in order to maintain the group. Once you begin to call the group a 'crew,' that assumes a different connotation, which may or may not require the utilization of rules or the like. That is dependent on the crew, the crew's mission, and how the captain wishes to maintain said crew."

"If it were my crew," she continued, taking a small sip of her cocoa, "They would be required to follow a basic set of rules, none as stringent as Starfleet's, but it would be my duty as a Captain to maintain crew morale and ensure the ship is in top working order, especially if I wish to take on jobs or missions that operate within the overall galactic society. The crew of a starship is a community coming from different walks of life, regardless of whether said vessel is affiliated with a larger entity or not. However, this is not my vessel, and I have not been asked to work with the crew on their ability, or lack thereof, to communicate effectively and civilly among themselves. It is my job to make sure the crew's flaws do not bubble into the clientele's perceptions and harm any lasting relationships for future jobs, so never fear, Science Chief, I do not have any plans of major reform for those who do not follow the rules."

Braden listened to her speech and after it all sank in he laughed. "You must be a Diplomat to be able to use that much double-talk and think it is reasonable." He waved and turned shaking his head "You are going to fit in with this group just fine." He walked away laughing. It was time to go he had made an appearance and he had conversed with others. He had enough.
