Reuben frowned into his whiskey. It was a strong glass but the man needed it after enduring meeting after meeting with people wanting this and that when he only wanted shoreleave and to feel some proper light on his skin and breath in done proper fresh air. He had posted a list of job vacancies at several locations before coming to the bar. It was a nice establishment, the owners had been happy to have an off wolder there as it was seen in high regard.
He barely had time to sit down and run his hand through his somewhat spiky hair or finish more than half his glass as he heard the front door open and close, accompanied with a loud bang noise and a couple of muffled words.
The Captain didn't even have the chance to turn around to see who it was before a small bundle of clothes -that he supposed was a person- flopped itself on the opposite side of the table interrupting his thoughts and conjecture about the offers he had received in regards to food and fuel.
"You must be Captain Gregnol. I hope I'm not intruding," said the golden-haired man as he settled in the seat, a mug of an alcoholic beverage of his own in his hand. The red and purple liquid of the pub's speciality swirled inside the cold glass as the strange man held his hand out. "I was hoping we'd get a chance to talk. I saw your opening but was never able to reach who I had thought was on the ship to try to get a hold of you. My absolute apologies. My name's Luka."
"Reuben Gregnol." The man said looking up from his own mug as he took in the younger mans appearance. He had thought him smaller from the sound of him coming into the establishment but it wasn't the case at all. "Which job opening was you looking at?" He had posted quite a few after the last few months of movement on the ship.
Luka tilted his head to one side. "The only one I've seen, for neuroscience. I'm a neurosurgeon specifically, but I have plenty of experience in the field of medicine if there are other aspects you needed beyond that." He looked around furtively, as if he were speaking to Rueben about the most precious of treasures. "Comatose patients happen to be a subject I'm studying into."
"I put out for Engineers and Science personnel as well." The Captain said raising an eyebrow wondering how he knew about the comatose crew members he was responsible for at the moment. "I didn't put that I needed someone for coma patients." He admitted that there were more than one person.
"You didn't. I must admit, this might not be my first job opportunity on a civilian vessel, but the Rose has a reputation, and I had to do a little background work. I've only heard about the offer from a friend of mine." Luka rubbed the back of his head, letting out a laugh. "I can forward my credentials if you'd like, but Starfleet gave me the tools to continue my studies into neuroscience specifically. I'm also trained as a forensic scientist if that's ever a necessity. Hopefully, it won't be, but you never know, right?"
"What kind of reputation?" The man wondered indicating to the waiter than came by that he wanted another drink and then one for his companion. "I hope never to need a forensic scientist." He had once been security, forensic scientists always meant trouble.
Luka kept a comforting smile on as he shrugged off the question with a gesture of his hand and an apologetic glint in his eye. "In all honesty, I hope to never need to utilize it again. One drug-bust turned murder was plenty enough for me. Most of my qualifications will be in neuroscience. I can send a copy of my service record with Starfleet, but I'm sure Alika can vouch for me."
The name of his former Executive Officer turned pain in the rear attracted his attention more than the mention of Starfleet records. The records could have been easily gotten another way that was no issue at all. "What would you know of Alika?" He demanded feeling himself on edge.
"I'm her brother." Head tilting to one side and brow furrowing, Luka leaned forward. "... Is everything alright with her? I haven't heard from her in a few weeks, but I had assumed she was caught up in whatever the Rose was up to. She hasn't come into something unfortunate, has she?"
"Not that I know of but she left us well over a month ago." The Russain said with a sigh as poured himself another drink. He was filled with regret over Alika everytime she was brought up. "When she left us she was fine." He just hoped she was indeed okay somewhere out there in the universe and whatever she had been running from hadn't found her.
Luka frowned, visibly upset, but he huffed out a breath and let it pass. "That sounds like something she would do. I'm sure she's fine, wherever she's wandered off to." He didn't seem convinced of himself. "But that solves quite a bit, and why you didn't know I was coming. I do apologize for that."
"I didn't have a clue," Reuben said. "I think we had discussed you but I had forgotten she had a brother." He admitted with a shrug. "Do you still want to see the patients seeing you managed to get to this planet?" It was no easy thing to get to Azzia.
Luka rubbed the back of his head. "I have some diplomatic connections, though I'm surprised I managed to get this close to Azzia myself. A beautiful planet, though. And yes, I do want to see these patients, so long as you'll have me aboard."
Reuben nodded quickly. He had no issue of helping someone get out of the anomaly at all, it seemed it dragged people in and it was hard to get back out again according to Deacon. "Shall we go now?" The Captain offered thinking there was no time like the present to get the two comatose patients looked at.
