Fortunate Pairing For Now

Rueben sighed to himself now that the mess with Cassie was over and everyone was either in sickbay or in some quarters doing who knows what for who knows where. Wait… he paused and remembered that there had been another person, a woman with the Vulcan group. He frowned as he dashed back to Sickbay and no she wasn’t there. Where the hell could she be? He thought to himself as he started to search for her.

Tevir had left her alone on this ship she did not even know the name of. She had wandered through the corridors unchallenged by crewmembers, albeit she did get a second glance or two. From what she could tell from the outside view and now this interior was the it was an old Starfleet vessel that had seen better days but still was in pretty good condition. Tevir had promised her a lab to use, somewhere to set up her studies on the Azzian anomaly that kept them hidden and gave them their safety.

Dodian had asked a confused crewman where she could find a lab of some sort but was directed to the Sensor Bay on Deck 10. It was as good a place as any she thought sighing and with a shrug of her shoulder, at least in was empty as she did like her own company more than others. There was a platform near the centre of the room and she placed a device on it, then pressed it to activate it. From this device sprung a 3D mock of the anomaly and data she had collected. From it she could see her notes at various points and how she believe this anomaly to somehow be held in position by spacial ripples. Her overall theory was that the universe was a river, a sea and that everything flows on it's course unless something within it changes forcing things into a pocket of space, or a change of direction.

She had began her connection process with the ships' computers, maybe a little of their processing power and data on the anomaly might prove helpful.

It didn't take long for the Captain to track down the woman once she connected to the computer and the Operations Officer on the bridge nearly had a heart attack at the sudden energy drain. "I believe we haven't actually ever been introduced." The Captain called from the doorway as he strolled into the sensor bay. He looked around having never been in the room before despite its big space.

Dodian had heard the doors swoosh quietly as she had her head down near the console working on something. As the footsteps grew closer she spun the 3D image again and 'zoomed' in by placing her hands together and then dragging them apart. The location she had brought forward was Azzia.

"No. We haven't." she replied not turning round just yet. She heard the thick accent but as she wasn't from Earth she had no idea what it was, just that it sounded sinister. Turning around she saw a rather large man walking towards her, she began to back away behind the console for safety as was her go to response when she felt threatened or scared in some fashion. "Well?" she asked ready to run for the door just in case.

Reuben saw the signs of her apprehension and held up his hands in a peaceful gesture. His appearance and accent no matter how he tried to tame them seemed to put most people off. "I am the Captain of this ship. Reuben Gregnol and you are?" He wondered holding out his hand to shake hers if she so wished.

Staring at his hand she shook her head, "Sorry, I don't touch people." she stated matter of fact. Given her past that was not a surprise but on this ship she was the only one that knew it. She could see he meant no harm but it was often her experience that men offered this reassurance before they took what they wanted from you. Instead she gave a half curtsy, never looking away from his just in case.

"Well, now that is out of the way. Can I ask what you are doing in my sensor deck?" He asked looking around at the 3D image that was being displayed around. It was an impressive machine, he had nothing like that on Rosie despite them having the funds and the personnel who jump at the opportunity.

"I'm mapping more of this anomaly using your sensor array to boost the definition of my scans. There is only so much I can get done with fashioning my own equipment on that backwater world they call home. They don't even have an anomaly assimilator and I'm not building one for them!" she said flicking Azzia like a bug as the 3D model grew to its normal size. "Also your sensors were 0.65 out of alignment, I fixed that, and increased your resolution by 12%... can't stand a blurry sensor." she added almost as if she had done it effortlessly.

The man arched an eyebrow and shook his head. "Haven't had anyone look at the sensors for awhile so thank you." He said stunned that they were out by so much served him right for employing Scientists who were less than able to do the job in hand. "Hmm... so what exactly are you doing?" He asked leaning against the console. It was interesting how people had ended up there when the world had only been open to the universe for seven years or so.

"Don't mention it." she mumbled as she watched him lean against the console and ask more questions. "I'm using your sensors to clear up my images of this anomaly. They have a much wider range and more precision that makeshift ones I build on the planet. Been here 6 months looking for answers... anomalies, and other things. Nice to be unseen." she thought of her brother whom she had yet to find, if he truthfully was on Azzia which remained to be seen. "Oh and I'm Dodian. Never did tell you my name, don't often offer it unless I feel like it so."

"Reuben Gregnol." The Captain introduced softly not mentioning it. "No, I mean how come you ended up here on this planet? Doesn't seem like a place people normally know of." He wondered softly with interest. It was interesting how people were ending up on the planet like a serious of serendipity moments.

"Well aren't you a nosey one..." she half asked noticing she'd dropped one of her data chips on the floor and bent down to pick it up showing the scars that littered her lower back. "Truth be told I don't know how I ended up here. I've always been told my species are drawn to places they need to be, to people they need to 'help'. So here I am, on your ship, talking to you." she finished. In truth she could have told him she was just looking for a new place to 'hide' from life. Recently she'd been having vivid nightmares of her time with the Orions, they were unsettling her and she felt somewhere mobile might be a harder place for people to find her. Her nightmare were often indicative of things to come, maybe some of her former employers were nearby.

The man couldn't miss the scar even if he tried but the mere thought of this woman being in some type of trouble made him angry. He didn't like the thought of any women in trouble like that. "So are you staying here?" He wondered softly. "I could use a scientist?" He admitted thinking she seemed nothing like the last one and that was good enough for him. Anything was better.

"Seems like an acceptable solution just now. I need your ship, you need a scientist. Fair trade is all people are after these days, most of the time. There are a lot of people who just 'take' without regard for others, so if you want me then I'll stay." she semi-graciously accepted his question. Inside she felt he 'needed' more but she couldn't quite place it. Was it him she was drawn too? Or maybe it was just a fortunate pairing for now.
