Mel wasn't one to enjoy a good leave, especially as she really didn't know these people, but the beach was one of favorite places, and any chance she got, she'd take it. No matter how uncomfortable it might potentially be. Stretching out on her beach towel, she looked out to the water as her shipmates paddled out to the sea.

Cassie had been doing many things that morning but grinned as she saw the Chief Engineer sit down and watch the group. "One of them is gonna get injured." She said by way of greeting to the Engineer before yelling out to the people paddling in the sea. "I've already got medical on standby." She teased.

As if on cue, Johnathen, who had been slicing a particularly gnarly wave, twisted just the wrong way and tumbled headfirst into the cresting wave. The force of the water dove him deep underneath the surface, his body tumbling as he tried to remain calm and just ride the current. Unfortunately, that same current drove him into the shallows, and the crashed into a partially submerged boulder, his right shoulder slamming into it.

The pain of the impact caused him to release the air he had been holding in his lungs, and he involuntarily sucked in a good amount of seawater. His body immediately began to convulse, as he tried to get to the surface, however, his right arm wasn't working. His life started to flash before his eyes as he began to sink back towards the bottom, his vision growing darker.

Mel watching the surfers out in the water instantly saw the accident. Standing up she started to run, tossing her sunglasses and hat as she made her way to the water. It didn't really take long to reach the man as she tucked an arm under his chest and tried to pull him up. Her small size didn't help, and she was struggling to keep the man's head above the water's surface. She was grateful when several other bystanders finally made their way to her and assisted in getting the man to shore. Mel didn't appreciate all the strangers, they were too close; she did appreciate their help.

"Hey, what's your name," she gently slapped his face trying to get his attention. "Come on," she stated, "look up at me," she rolled him on his side as he started to cough up large amounts of water. Mel tried hard not to gag, "see this is why I didn't go into medical," she could feel herself started to retch as the man continued to cough up water. She hated that sound. "There, there," she tried to sound comforting as she gave him several swats to the back. She turned the other direction, "come on Mel, don't vomit on the nice man who almost drown," she told herself.

Eden came up from falling into the water yet again. She wiped off her face when she noticed that someone was sprawled on the beach with a figure leaning over him. Moving to investigate she dragged her board along as it was tied to her foot as to not escape. "What happened?" She asked when she got close enough.

Mel looked up at the incoming crew members, "pretty boy here opted to surf without his board, I think. He has been coughing up a lot of water," Mel was beginning to turn green. She hated all things medical, "please tell me you're a Doctor?" she asked.

"No but I am his wife." Cassie said as knelt next to him resisting the urge to knock him up the head.

"Afraid not. I fly the ship and try not to run into things. But if he's coughing he's breathing so that's good." Eden glanced around to see if she could see anyone who was medical personnel.

"One would think so," Mel stated, she keep the man rolled on his side. It was all she could remember from the basic first aid classes. "Come on pretty boy," she wished she could remember his name. She leaned over him, "keep those eyes open," she kept a hand on his shoulder as she tried to sound as comforting as she could. She knew it wouldn't be convincing, "please tell me you're done, barfing up sea water?" she tried to joke.

Johnathen kept coughing up the seawater that he had both inhaled and ingested. Once he was able to take oxygen into his lungs, he began to retch a few times, his body desperate to expel the fluid that nearly ended his life. It took several minutes for him to calm down.

Cassie wrapped an arm around him rubbing his back. "Idiot man." She said in a tone that was affectionate even if it sounded concerned. Leiddem had been too far away to be any help at the beginning but he did have a medical tricorder he had kindly borrowed from a Crewman who had been looking over a Starfleet sensor and turned it onto medical mode.

"He will live long enough for his wife to have him." The man announced happily.

Johnathen finally began to breath normally again. Looking around at everyone who was hovering near him, he tried to say a joke, to lighten the stress. "Anyone get the name of that Klingon battlecruiser that ran me over?" He then looked up into Cassie's beautiful eyes. "I'm sorry, my love."

Cassie narrowed her eyes a little at him not impressed by him at all. "You are lucky that we have such good shipmates who don't mind saving lives." The woman said shortly.

Mel was glad the man was recovering the last thing she needed was his dead body on the beach; there would be too many questions. She'd been there, didn't need to be there again, "good shipmates," she patted Johnathen on the shoulder, "yep, something like that," she stated sarcastically. She rolled over onto her backside as she took a few breaths, still feeling the effects of the adrenaline coursing through her veins.

Johnathen slowly sat up, and then, with the help of his wife, stood up, cradling his injured arm with his other arm. "I think I've had enough fun today. I gotta get my shoulder looked at. Sorry, everyone. I didn't intend to bring the good vibes down. Please, try to enjoy the rest of the day." He turned and slowly made his way off the beach, Cassie helping to keep him steady as he went.

"I'll just go back to surfing, or attempting to. Be careful out there." Eden said, feeling the awkwardness of the moment. She turned on her heels and was gone back into the water without another word.
