Dixoho was half asleep this early in the morning when she looked up as a something came up as in the way of her flight plan to get them to where they were planning to drop off the cargo they had gotten in exchange for ship parts. “Sir…” She said spinning on the chair to look back at the person in the Captain’s chair as it wasn’t Gregnol. “Something is in the way of us.”
Having not been fitted for one of the spiffy new uniforms yet, Alika sat in Reuben's prized Captain's Chair, legs over one of the arms as she lazily tossed an apple in the air every few seconds. She looked over to Dixoho, boredom popped as the other spoke. "Something? Big? Little? Moving? Space manta?" She looked toward the gathered bridge crew. "Anyone got a read on it?"
Jasper tapped away at his controls happy something was finally happening, "changing screen view to show entire vessel, incoming message, Automated I believe."
The incoming message was a simple warning by what sounded like a Dominion War era Starfleet computer, "Alert: alter your trajectory. Collision course detected. Alert: alter your trajectory. Collision course detected." The message only repeated from there.
Dixoho looked at the screen as the ship slowly started to come into view. “What is it?” She wondered. It looked like it was an Intrepid-class but not completely. An Intrepid-class saucer section was there sure but it was attached to a larger, and bulkier secondary hull. Two nacelles were attached to large wing-like appendages coming off the aft hull. “It looks like it is constructed from salvaged components, components in work, and custom assemblies fabricated by completely different fleet yards.”
"Looks like it has a bite," Kendra pointed out from her position at comms. She had no experience to speak from but she had studied the newer ships around the quadrant. Intrepids would outclass this understaffed ship that was over a century old. Realizing her position, "No signs of comm activity, not counting the automated message."
"Ooohhhh," Eden pipped up. "A ghost ship." She said rather cheerfully. "I love a good ghost story. You know, as long as there's no blood and guts. I can't handle that, makes me queasy."
"Didn't you guys end up on a ghost ship...." Dixoho asked confused by Eden's excitement over but was cut off before she could say more about it.
"Don't worry, I'll handle the blood and guts," Alika stated plainly, kicking her legs into a full seated position and looking forward. "You think if it's abandoned someone's going to come looking for it? I got an idea, but if this ship hasn't been abandoned that long, might not be a good one..."
"It looks pretty old and we are pretty old." Dixoho murmured looking at the younger woman. It was odd to see her back in the chair though it had been a few months it always made her wonder what was going on with Gregnol.
Alika waved a hand, before looking toward the others. "No life signs? Are we sure there isn't anyone living there? No tribe of tribbles? Nothing?"
Jasper shook his had as he listened to the conversation. Things seemed a little too familiar, too similar to what happened when he was younger. "I have no life sign reading either. I don't like it."
"Wouldn't be a true ghost ship with life signs. Maybe the crew is dead. Maybe they had a dire need to search for coffee in a nebula all at once. Certainly, some investigation is in order. People don't leave starships lying around without good reason, even old ones." Eden said quietly looking out at it. With a little spit and polish they might be able to bring it around. And she'd never flown one before, didn't mean she didn't want to learn.
"I can't work out its course or where it had come from any of my scans. It seems to be drifting." Dixoho commented on bringing up what she had gotten so far from scanning around both ships.
Still getting used to the upgraded tech on her panel, Kendra could sense some things. "No tacyons or signs of internal communications," she chimed in. "It looks and sounds like a ghost ship." She was not as sure and confident as she sounded. Why would Stafleet just leave a powerful ship around like this?" "Anyone know what the purpose of this class of ship was?"
Jasper was searching to find a match for the disabled ship and he shook his head, "looks like it was an exploration ship or science vessel, but what was it doing here?"
Dixoho turned a little more in her seat as she listened to Jasper and saw what he was finding. She spotted the year of the first ship and rolled her eyes, it always led back to that. "I believe the purpose of this ship was war." The woman added to what the Operation Chief was saying.
"War," Jasper tilted his head as he looked over at Dixoho, "sorry I think I was in pieces during that time."
"It's a Yeager." Took Alika a moment, before she realized exactly what was in front of them. "I learned a little during my two weeks at Starfleet. It's a reworked science vessel of some sort. I'd have to get a hold of my brother, he'd know all the dirty nitty gritty about it. But if the only sign of anything is that one message? I got a bone to pick with the big man."
"Not your fault," Eden said catching Jasper's eye. "We missed a lot and she looks rather funny for a war machine. I guess they weren't counting on looks for intimidation. Maybe her bite is worse than her bark. Question is, why is it here and what are we going to do about it." She looked around at the others.
"If no one is using it," Kendra started, a mischievous look flashed across her face before becoming a bit more professional. "We don't want to worry about another raiding party taking us by surprise," she added, referring to the events that led them to the Alternate Universe recently.
Dixoho smiled softly and shook her head at the discussion. "The bigger question is who wants to wake the Captain up?" Dixoho questioned just as mischievous grin on her face. It would be like waking a bear with a sore head with how grumpy the man had been over the last few months.
"Not me, I'm third on the rotation," Kendra laughed. There was no way she was going to alert the Gregnol for a non-emergency.
Eden shrugged. "I'll do it, I'm not afraid of him."
"It's seven in the morning," Alika pointed out, already springing up from the chair. "If he's not awake by now, he's either dead or dying. And he's not that scary. Why do people think he's scary?" She waved a hand, gesturing for Eden to come along with her. "If he gets snappy I'll just get snappy back."
Rising from her chair, Eden followed. It was more a habit from Starfleet, being ordered to do something, that caused her to move without thinking about it. Still, she really had no fear of the situation and although two people probably wouldn't be needed to inform the Captain of anything, she still went. Things could get interesting.
