Weirdest Day Ever

Karis came through the door and just stood there, staring off into space not sure where to begin her story. That had been the strangest turbolift ride she'd ever experienced and she was briefly considering only climbing jefferies tubes from now on but that would take her ages. Finally she glanced around for Ryon. "You're never going to believe what happened."

Watching Karis' stunned silence, Ryon immediately thought something bad had happened. He was dressed in his casual clothes, finally taking a moment to be out of uniform. Moving closer to his stunned girlfriend, he asked, "What happened?"

"I just got out of a turbolift with Captain Ehestri and that bolian you talked about. The one she dated before. And there was another man in the turbolift who claimed to be married to the Captain. I don't know if that was true. And then he tried to hit on me when the Captain said she was unavailable, the bolian not the other man. But it was like he was just taking whatever he could get." She didn't know whether to be disgusted, sick or both. She shook her head, "Am I making any sense?"

"Did you say Bolian?" Ryon said with a hint of a growing smile appearing on his face. Are you saying Chend is aboard?" he followed up, almost wishing he would have been on that elevator. His face turned to confusion for a moment before he asked another question, "And did you say Ledeya is married now?"

"That's what she told the Bolian, Chend did you say his name was? But maybe that was just to get rid of him. I mean I would have told him I was bonded even if that wasn't true, just to get out of there." Karis took a deep breath, not missing the smile on his face. "I knew you'd find that interesting."

"What was your take on him?" Ryon asked, barely containing his amusement. "Was he still full of himself and do i have competition?" he continued, still joking.

"Very full of himself. And maybe, if you keep teasing me about him. I mean he did offer after all. I could go back and say I've changed my mind. Maybe it's not only ladies he likes. For all we know you could be his next target." Karis walked up to him and rubbed her nose against his. "You're stuck with me I'm afraid."

"If you want to be with a guy like Chend," Ryon teased, pointing to the door. Ryon kissed Karis on the forehead and held her hand to show that he was only kidding. "I really am glad I pulled you out of that escape pod."

"Are you?" They had taken things slow. What with surviving a ship blowing up and Ryon being alone for so long, it seemed like the thing to do. Plus she wanted to make sure that he had all of the choices possible with this imprint. "Because," she said carefully. "I do intend to stay with you . . . forever. If you want me to."

Smiling a little, the Bajoran replied with, "Forever isn't long enough." After the words came out of his mouth, he realized that it was the first time he had really been so open about his feelings.

Karis felt her heart soar. He did love her then. She had honestly doubted it sometimes. They were both so busy with one crisis after another that they sometimes didn't see each other for days. She buried her face in his shoulder.
