Mission: Mission 16: Hysperia
Location: SS Mary Rose
Timeline: September 2397
1851 words - 3.7 OF Standard Post Measure

It had been a long couple of months attempting to get the ship back into some semblance of working order and then back to spaceworthiness. He was proud of every single member of the crew that had worked hard to achieve it both old-timers and the new members of his senior who had joined just recently. The tour of the ship had been going on for nearly an hour, they had been through hydroponics and pool complex and were now moving on to engineering.

It had been a challenge and where over 50% of the stolen credits had been used but the ship was not going to break down like it had again any time soon. "Burnie you know Engineering better you can go through everything that you have achieved here."

"More like what haven't we done," Burnie joked, though only partially. He could probably talk about everything in detail for hours, but he knew from experience that non-engineers eyes tended to glaze over so reports to a mixed crowd were best kept short and to the point. "The engines and EPS systems have been upgraded, plasma conduits reinforced, subspace resonator completely replaced, dilithium chamber upgraded with a theta-matrix compositor, and the environmental systems have been completely overhauled with additional power back-ups installed, so we shouldn't have to worry about being on a long dark ride again." He smiled in relief at that one. "And that's nothing compared to the defensive and weapons upgrades. Auto-modulating shielding. We now have Type X phasers and both photon and quantum torpedoes."

“I am sure our chief of security will have more to say on the weapons and defences we have acquired,” Gregnol commented smiling as he looked around the main engineering and saw just how much brighter it was than before. It was like someone had increased the lighting as well.

"I mean; I acquired a lot of weapons here; but most of them aren't exactly the ship-mounted type." Kali joked; the Hysperian smiths had ended up with a decent portion of her own funds over their time here, with most of the results stashed in the armory; though thankfully she'd mostly been able to make up the difference by winning at a few of the local gambling dens.

"Any questions for Burnie or around Engineering?" Gregnol asked looking at everyone waiting around looking at the warp core reactors, intricate plasma conduits, and various engineering stations bustling with activity. It was a big change but one that was needed.

"So...purely hypothetically...If at some point in the future we had to draw, say, 130 percent of the power the thrusters or the impulse engines on a Connie are normally rated for...Would she hold up to it now, potentially?" Kali raised one eyebrow at Burnie with a grin, but there was a serious note below in the inquiry - a pilot who didn't know enough about what they were flying and how far you could push it to know where the real lines not to cross were vs the ones on paper didn't really deserve the job, in her opinion.

"Sure. Maybe even 135..." Burnie pursed his lips, head tipping side to side, and then considered who was asking then question, "...just not for very long, 'k?"

"Got it." Kali nodded, one corner of her mouth drawing a bit further up in a brief layering of almost a mischievous smirk over the rest of her expression.

“Or never,” Gregnol said in a rough tone despite his face smiling at the banter that was happening between his crew. “Let’s move on.” He had not needed to go into the replicators added to engineering. Burnie was aware of it all and that was enough as it was engineering replicators.

"On behalf of Operations and resource management I second that notion," Trades commented.

Gregnol nodded at the group and moved them onto the refurbished Recreation Deck. It had always been where the crew and passengers could relax and unwind during their downtime. The Recreation Deck had always included various areas for physical activity, such as a gym, lounges, a library, and a bar where crew members could socialize and enjoy each other's company, but now it had a holodeck where crew members could simulate various environments and experiences. "So I got a holodeck after much... wrangling." He said knowing it was a very basic model, a could 40 years or so old but it was something better than what had been there before.

"Niiice." Kali's head was already playing out a variety of implications of this addition; from better flight sims and combat training to 'beach party on demand'.

"Curtis and Delaney will be over the moon. And actually, having a couple of folks on board that are half-decent holonovelists might go some way when it comes to morale," Jake observed with a thoughtful nod.

“Exactly.” Gregnol knew people have struggled over the years since he had gotten the ship in 2393. He had not been able to do anything then but he had once he had gotten credits to be able to do something about it. Gregnol led them to the refurbished mess hall which was now a bit brighter and had a new kitchen that was viewable. The betazoid chef was working there and ignored the group that was there. “The mess hall also has more than two replicators as well. Still not able to have them in quarters due to power circuits but there is more availability in the mess hall.”

It was a quick tour of the mess hall that quickly led to other areas of the ship.

Sickbay, in many ways, barely resembled the space it had once been. Leave it to an ex-Starfleet officer, with family connections and the expectations that came with it, to squeeze every last drop from the allocated budget. Evelyn, who had felt somewhat of an imposter during the previous destinations, accepted the need to step into the spokesperson role and opted to address the group from the other side of one of the newly installed, and upgraded, biobeds.

"I feel that it is safe to say that if it was here before, it's probably not here now." A faint smile saw her glance at Gregnol, an acknowledgement of the number of times she'd turned up on his doorstep to 'speak' to him regarding the refit. "I'd firstly like to congratulate you all for not expiring under previous conditions." She was exaggerating, mostly. Catching Jake's eye, the doctor winked.

The second best work after engineering had to be sickbay in Gregnol's opinion. It was much better than the items that had been stolen by Mox and Uhin from the Cosmos when they had been in port at the beginning of the journey. “It worked so this should improve our chances even better,” Gregnol said gently.

"The increase in the crew made it important that we redesign the space to accommodate a larger intake if required. We now have three standard biobeds, which is an increase of one, but we also have the new and shiny edition right here." She patted the bed in front her. "Our new primary bed, complete with advanced diagnostics and surgical functions. The three smaller portable scanners are each assigned to the other beds, this one has its own array," she patted the affixed scanner, "and there are also the two medical recliners for patching up life's little moments." Evelyn paused and added, "Or emergency dentistry."

"Beyond the complete replacement of our diagnostic and surgical infrastructure, there's been a complete overhaul of our instrumentation, proper allocation of medical equipment so that all staff have comprehensive access to their own treatment kits, and a much-needed upgrade to the dispensary unit and medical synthesiser. Newer hyposprays," Evie continued, trying to recall everything on the mile-long list that compromise had whittled down somewhat. "You may also have noticed that I have claimed a previously-disused science lab. That equipment is education-based only, the holographic upgrades to the ship have allowed for the installation of a training module." Folding her arms across her chest, the doctor concluded, "Now all you have to do is make sure none of you ever need to use any of this."

Gregnol was not going to mention that the previously disused lab had been Cassie’s and it had required a little bit of discussion with the woman but it had been worth it in his opinion for the space that it now gave them. “It’s very basic holographic upgrades.” Gregnol quickly reminded. He did not want people to get ahead of themselves.

"So, along with picking up a new Armoury chief and expanding that team, we also picked up some goodies from Captain Jaal and her people," Jake said, looking over at Sirotek as they arrived at the refitted armoury suite. "I understand we've been outfitted with some phasers and a few torpedoes now, right?"

"I'll be honest, I've just arrived on board and I'm still trying to make sense of everything," Mitch confessed. "I have a list of our current payload, but distinguishing what's new and what's old, well," he shrugged, "I'm still sifting through the dust to find some answers. Give me a day and I will have your answers."

As they finally got to the Bridge via quarters and observation lounge Gregnol turned to Trades and indicated it was his turn to speak.

"Sensors, both internal and external, have been enhanced. The ship's operating system, navigation charts, security settings, and replicators, have all been updated to current standards. The Lateral arrays have been realigned and re-enforced. Transport buffer storage has been increased and the backup power has also been upgraded." Trades paused to think, there were a number of other updates as well but most of them were basic sub-systems upgrades that didn't need to be mentioned as it would just take up time.

"That's a relief. If the Rangers are going to have us handling some meatier pieces of work, having the ship up to a higher spec is going to make a big difference," Jake agreed.

"That's also where all those questions I was asking in Engineering come into play, yeah." Kali waved a hand at the flight console. "We got the nacelles reinforced and the power distribution to them enhanced and had the responsiveness of the console inputs and the response time of the engines improved, too. Structural integrity fields have also been enhanced; so that we hold together better if we have to do some meatier evasive maneuvers."

“Well, hopefully, we will not have the meatier upgrades for a while,” Gregnol commented. Nothing had been arranged with the Thrai crew yet so it was just cargo runs from Freecloud again until the need called for it. “Does mean I need you all to confirm that you are here for the changes and us assisting the Rangers.” He asked quietly. He was on this road but he was not going to drag everyone along with him. It was the final chance to get off if they wanted it.

"Absolutely." Kali grinned leading the way.
