Mirror Mirror
Location: ISS Nantahala, ISS Fenrir
Timeline: 2397
1197 words - 2.4 OF Standard Post Measure
“ISS Fenrir, this is Commander Kyle Reece, aboard the runabout, ISS Nantahala. I am on final approach to your location. Sending authorization codes for landing now.” Kyle reached over and pressed the transmit button. “Codes sent, awaiting landing clearance.”
"Granted," Jake responded.
“I see my new Executive Officer has arrived,” Gregnol announced to the bridge. He was not sure how he felt about having this man pushed on it but he was reminded he couldn’t just have his own way all the time no matter how highly regarded he was.
"A shame what happened to the old one," Jake smirked, glancing over to where Gregnol and Alexis sat.
Dixoho turned and glared at the man. It had been her husband, after all, it was not something to smirk at if someone wanted to keep their teeth.
A few minutes later, the old runabout was pulled into the massive shuttlebay of the Fenrir. A few minutes later, after the post-flight checks were completed. The starboard hatch slid open. After a beat, an individual stepped out. It was a strongly built man, dressed all in black, all that was exposed were his arms (though the left seemed artificial), and his head, though he wore a mask that covered the bottom of his face. His eyes were very stern, always seeking a threat. The peculiar thing about his eyes, however, was that they were two different colors. The right one was an icy blue, while is left, not 0nly looked like an artificial eye, but was red in color.
After a few beats, the man said, "All clear, Master."
Another man built equally as powerful, but wearing the uniform of an Imperial Commander, stepped out of the runabout, and began to head towards the nearest lift, his guard in close behind him. Back on the runabout, a single occupant remained behind, a demon by the looks of him. It was a Klingon warrior, sworn to absolute loyalty to her master. The Klingon closed the hatch, locked it, and waited.
Kyle and his guard entered the lift. As the doors closed, he spoke a single word. "Bridge." The lift then began its journey to the requested destination.
Gregnol rose as the lift doors opened and everyone stepped out. "Pleasure to see you arrived safely, Commander. Communication please send to Headquarters that Commander Reece has arrived." Gregnol instructed not even waiting for a yes sir, he knew his orders would be followed without hesitation.
Kyle and his shadow moved closer to Reuben. Kyle motioned, and his guard froze. Kyle then finished the last three paces alone. Extending his hand, Kyle gave a polite, lop-sided grin. "Captain Gregnol, thank you. Your reputation does you justice, Sir."
Gregnol took the hand and looked at the guard next to him and grinned at the man. Did he really think he could have his face covered like that? Before he could speak up though someone else did.
“Your guard as you wish for one has to have his face exposed at all times. Admiralty rules from Kita and Snow.” Dixoho piped up. She might never get anything further in Imperial Starfleet being a Trill but she protected her Captain.
Kyle seemed surprised by this, yet quickly decided to acquiesce. Truth be told, he was a little curious as to what would happen in the next few seconds. Looking over to his guard, he nodded. As his guard began to remove his mask, Kyle looked back at Reuben and spoke. “No offense was intended, Captain. In my family’s home, all of our slaves keep their faces covered.” He paused, the left corner of his mouth tipping up slightly. “Though, I will certainly obey the rules of your Admirals, while I serve aboard your vessel. I believe you know my bodyguard...”
The man finished removing the mask, to reveal just who he was. None other than former bloodhound and bounty hunter of Captain Reuben Gregnol, Micheal Robertson!
"Our Admirals," Gregnol commented on as he sat back down. He had expected some type of power play but he had to admit Roberston being alive and a slave was so much more than he had expected. "Well, my bounty hunter lives I see. So many people will be happy to see that the faithless have been returned to the faith." He said levelling Dixoho a look who stood with her mouth agape. It was almost disappointing that Selina was not on the Bridge. Alexis glanced back at Jake and shrugged. She had no idea really but maybe he had an idea over this whole show.
Kyle gave a slight bow of his head. "Of course, Captain, *our* admirals. Regardless, it shall be an honor to serve with an officer as...distinguished, as you, Sir." As Kyle spoke, he took in the reactions of the bridge. It pleased him that he had made such an impression.
Jake met Alexis' look with a cautious one of his own. Evidently, she wasn't heavily involved in this affair, but whatever history existed between Gregnol and this slave must have caused some consternation from the others on the bridge. Perhaps it was a story worth hearing at some point. Even so, he mused, the fact that the new XO had a bodyguard suggested he was paranoid and potentially vulnerable without one. Strategically there might be an opportunity there. And if the bodyguard wasn't a fan of the Butcher, then even better: he could be turned to an ally.
"Well, I guess you should take your seat." Gregnol just looked at both men and smirked, here was a man who was deeply afraid enough to bring a bodyguard onto the Bridge and admit his paranoia. Either he was a fool or truly thinking a display of power like that would be enough to keep him safe from his crew and whoever killed his last Executive Officer. This was certainly going to be an interesting mission for the Emperess to say the least.
Kyle tilted his head towards Gregnol slightly, then looked over to Micheal and snapped his fingers once. As if programmed, Micheal turned back towards the turbo lift and left the bridge. Once the man was gone, Kyle moved to his position and sat down, clearly completely assured in his own abilities and place in the universe. After looking at each bridge officer in the eye, he turned to Gregnol. “Orders, Captain?”
"No new orders we are on our way to Phados Prime," Gregnol said simply looking at the man. "Following the Empress' orders." He added as a point to remind the man what they were doing. "How long until we get there Saa?"
The Helm's person rolled her eyes facing her console and calculated quickly. "Seven hours give or take half an hour." She said. They could go faster but she had been told that it was not urgent so need to push there engines just yet.
Jake watched the two men intently, seeking signs of anything opportune. But nothing immediately presented itself. He'd press Agrax on the matter later. She'd know far more than the rest. And given her new status, he was sure she'd be only too eager to share.
